Embark on an epic 4-day trek through the Bolivian wilderness. Hike through the Cordillera de Los Frailes, witness magnificent dinosaur footprints at the crater of Maragua, and stay the night in rustic cabins in the Quechua town of Potolo on... this one-of-a-kind Andes adventure.
Day 1
Start your journey by traveling on a microbus to the outskirts of Sucre, and then hop aboard a truck to Chataquila, a small village perched atop of the Cordillera de los Frailes mountain range.
Take in the incredible views of the whitewashed buildings of Sucre behind you before you start your hike down the mountain toward caves covered with rock paintings. Your guide teaches you about this mysterious artwork before you make your way to the small village of Chaunaca to camp for the night, right alongside the River Ravelo.
Day 2
After breakfast, hike past magnificent rock formations along the river on your way to the village of Socopampa. Walk across a suspension bridge and follow your guide past waterfalls surrounded by fascinating cliffs. When you reach the top of your ascent, look back to take in the expansive landscape spreading itself out in beautiful layers behind you.
Your next stop is the Crater of Maragua, a giant depression in the valley that's filled with fossils from ages ago. Stand above La Garganta del Diablo, the waterfall known as the Devil’s Throat. Once dusk arrives, spend the night in the village of Irupampa and witness a special show, where locals demonstrate how to make their famous woven textiles.
Day 3
Rise with the sun and have breakfast before making your way west out of the crater. Stop at the incredible site of Niñu Mayu, where you can see footprints of dinosaurs embedded in pure rock. Stop for lunch before hiking through another scenic valley. Head past tranquil villages high above the Pilcomayo River on your way to the remote Quechua village of Potolo, where you sleep for the night in rustic cabins.
Day 4
Awake feeling refreshed before enjoying a late breakfast. Wander through the tranquil avenues of this mountainside village and then make your way to the valley of the Rio Potolo. Travel over the Cordillera de Los Frailes to return to Sucre.
